UPDATE: Local radio station WORT reporting that last night as republicans left the capitol building they were chased by demonstrators causing police to intervene by commandeering and evacuating a city bus to take the repubs to the Dane County Airport.

All city buses have video cameras. Police have reportedly sought to aquire the video tape of the incident, but the city-owned Madison Metro has so far refused.

Obama says that America should not be about the "haves and the have nots."

Events of the recent Middle Eastern revolution in general and specifically, the wholesale slaughter of Libyan rebels by their own government, raise an important question. Why do governments promote the idea murder is OK?

In the civilized world, the concept of murder is generally seen as abhorrent by most citizens. There are various laws against murder, some of which punish the crime by committing the act again. The general public at large is forbidden to murder under penalty. However, governments of the world are allowed to fight wars, amass highly dangerous weapons with the potential to end civilization completely and execute citizens who commit crimes.

It is time that we pay attention to the hypocrisy inherent in allowing and often times, condoning murder.

Images of broken and bloody bodies of the Libyan rebels stir passion in the hearts of Americans. What if these people were a close friend or family member? No one agrees that what the government of Libya is right or just. However, it bears mention that rebellion in America would likely garner similar results.

Do you truly desire peace? There shall never be peace in this world so long as we continue to allow others to kill at will.

No amount of fear, scapegoating or sorrow should allow us to accept that certain governments kill human beings each and every day. It is the love of power and domination over others that causes such behavior. It is far past time for the citizens of the world to let our governments know that murder will no longer by tolerated in civilized society. By anyone, for any reason - it is time to end the double standard, "Thou shalt not kill, unless you have a good reason to."

It is time to end the Hypocrisy of murder and move closer to becoming a peaceful people.

The battle over public union rights in Madison continues...

I thought this post was an interesting take on how the current ideological makeup of our government is increasingly fractured.

Often, our political leaders ask us to compromise principles for the sake of furthering party agendas.

Currently, the Democratic Party is making a concerted effort to unite its base behind the political battle over union rights in Wisconsin. Certainly, fighting for the rights of these workers is a just cause. It's an opportunity for the party to galvanize its base and unite behind a common call to action. Such a galvanization is clearly beneficial to the party. Many Democrats were disenfranchised by the outcome of the battle for health insurance reform as the law we ended up with was not in line with the philosophy of many Democrats. Many progressive Democrats felt that our President did not fight for the ideals of party members in this instance.

While it is important to remember that we must fight for the rights of workers, the question must be raised. Should we allow compromise of our ideals in order to further the agenda of the party? Moreover, if the elected officials continue to compromise the ideals of constituents, should we throw our support behind them again once an issue that's easy to agree on rears its head?

If our President campaigned on specific planks of a platform, should we not hold him to account to do what he said he would do?

We must elect leaders who will take action on the issues we care about. When these leaders fail to serve the constituents and instead serve the corporate masters who fund them, we must elect them out of office. Politicians don't deserve second chances to do the right (or in this case, left) thing.

This Alex Jones is a fascinating character.

Liberals who have watched "MoveOn The Movie" should recall that quite recently, those on the left side of the bird were rather into 9/11 Truth, although progressives and liberals in general, have started to brand Jones' viewpoints as conservative, following his criticisms of the Obama administration.

The unintended consequence of the Sheen meltdown has been a heightened interest in Jones, due to the actor and radio host's prior association, and the fact that Sheen spewed his CBS angst on Jones' program.
